Viessmann is introducing a new compact commercial boiler, the Vitocrossal 100, for buildings such as offices and schools where plant room space is limited.

The Vitocrossal 100 has the practical advantage of an exceptionally small footprint, thanks to its new stainless steel heat exchanger, and is the first floor-standing gas-fired condensing boiler from the company to feature Lambda Pro technology for optimum performance and efficiency.

The Vitocrossal 100 sits inside a new casing design, which measures just 680mm in width and 1,459mm in height, with length varying (according to output) from just 660mm to 1,010mm. Boilers with comparable outputs from other manufacturers are typically 1,000mm to 1,200mm long.

An all-new stainless steel Inox-Crossal heat exchanger – assembled with new welding technology in stainless steel layered chambers – makes it possible for the Vitocrossal 100 to combine its compact dimensions and lightweight with high performance and efficiency.

There is a choice of seven models, ranging from 80 to 320kw, plus the option of a twin cascade within a single casing for up to 640kw. This range is perfectly suited to schools, and the option of two boilers in one casing means that heat supply to classrooms (or offices) can continue uninterrupted when one boiler is offline for maintenance.

Because the Vitocrossal 100 is floorstanding rather than wall-hung, its flow temperature is not restricted to between 75 and 80°c, another advantage for the many schools where the existing heating system requires a high flow temperature. With its high-volume heat exchanger, the Vitocrossal has a maximum flow temperature of 95°c and maximum operating pressure of 6bar. Its modulation range of up to 1:5 guarantees a long burner run-time and economical energy consumption, with efficiency of 109% (98.2% gross).

Unlike other floorstanding boilers, the Vitocrossal 100 delivers the benefits of a high water content boiler with no minimum flow rate requirement, no boiler pump requirement and subsequent savings on electrical running costs. Yet it is pre-wired and pre-assembled like wall-hung boilers. Also for ease of installation, the Vitocrossal 100 has three wheels that allow it to be pushed like a vehicle into position without lifting the boiler or scraping the floor.

Commissioning is also easy, thanks to the Vitotronic controller with commissioning assistant and integrated Lambda Pro combustion controller, which ensures optimum combustion and efficiency irrespective of gas quality. With the optional Vitoconnect 100 WiFi module, servicing is made easier via a wireless operating system for Vitosoft connection and the boiler can also be controlled over the internet.

Jonathan Grist, Viessmann commercial sales director, said: “The new Vitocrossal 100 is the solution to the problem of modernising plant rooms where there’s difficult access, a small floor area, or low ceiling height. Many schools, in particular, have old atmospheric boilers where it was previously impossible to retrofit a condensing boiler in the same space but the Vitocrossal 100’s compact technology now makes that possible.”
