The PEX Pipe Blue is a new sustainable option for installers. Supplied with an estimated service life of 50 years, this product from Uponor has a reduced carbon footprint of up to 90% compared to fossil-based plastic PEX pipes due to the use of bio-based materials in its manufacture, the company says.

Mark Dowdeswell, Senior Category Manager at Uponor, explained: “Our PEX Pipe Blue combines the same market-leading features of our standard PEX pipe with added sustainability benefits. This is an important step forward in our efforts to constantly improve the carbon footprint of our products.”

“As an industry, we are all striving to create sustainable solutions for buildings and all parts of the construction process, including in plumbing and underfloor heating systems. This new product will help our customers to achieve their sustainability goals in all types of projects.”

The significantly low carbon footprint is based on Environmental Product Declaration EN15804+A1, CML / ISO21930. which uses life cycle assessment to comprehensively evaluate a product´s environmental impact along its entire life cycle from manufacture to deconstruction. All data is verified by an independent third party. In addition, the entire supply chain of the PEX Pipe Blue is certified by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC).

To fully ensure that all ISCC requirements are met, Uponor’s ISCC certificate is audited annually by an independent third party, which demonstrates the company’s commitment to a more sustainable building environment.

The new PEX Pipe Blue contains all of the existing features of Uponor’s PEX pipe, including the same superior quality and long term durability performance demonstrated since its launch over 50 years ago. This makes the PEX Pipe Blue suitable for use in conjunction with radiant heating and cooling systems in both newbuilds and renovations.

It will be available to order directly from Uponor later this year.
