John Cruickshank, Anthony Sanders, Ross Coen, and Michael Goodall will now compete against six other top tradespeople at the national final later this month to be crowned Screwfix Top Tradesperson 2023.

John, 43, has 25 years of experience in the trade and impressed judges during the semi-final with his passion for sharing his own skills and knowledge with others via his social media channels, together with his commitment to safeguarding the future by being as sustainable as possible.

Anthony, 47, from Norwich is the co-director of Smart Heating EA Ltd and has been working in the trade for 18 years. Anthony showed a passion for the environment in his application, planting trees for every boiler installation to offset the company’s carbon footprint.

Ross Coen, 39, from Warrington owns Bumblebee Plumbing and Heating Ltd and has been working in the trade for more than 20 years. He is passionate about giving back to the local community, with Bumblebee Plumbing and Heating sponsoring a range of local teams and sportspeople and working closely with charities such as Warrington Childrens’ Hospital.

Michael, 35, from Leeds owns iPlumb and has been working in the trade for 20 years. As an employer, Michael has put four individuals through apprenticeships to become fully qualified plumbing and gas engineers.

Screwfix Top Tradesperson attracted more than 1,000 applications this year, with just 10 making the final stage. The final will take place at Screwfix LIVE on 22 September, where the four heating engineers will have the chance to highlight their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to the trade in front of a panel of industry experts.

The panel includes representatives from the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE), the National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC), and Screwfix Top Tradesperson 2022 champion, Toby Peacock.

Only one tradesperson will be crowned Screwfix Top Tradesperson and receive the ultimate trade bundle of tech, tools and training worth £20,000, while earning themselves a spot in the Screwfix Top Tradesperson Hall of Fame.

Jack Wallace, Marketing Director at Screwfix and judge of the competition, said: “At Screwfix, we know how invaluable tradespeople are to both our economy and the local communities in which they work. Our Screwfix Top Tradesperson competition shines a light on inspirational tradespeople who go above and beyond for their customers, their colleagues, and the next generation of tradespeople, day in, day out.

“The previous winners of the award are truly outstanding professionals, role models and ambassadors for the trade, and earned their spot in the Top Tradesperson Hall of Fame. I’m looking forward to crowning our 2023 champion in September and wish all the finalists the very best of luck!”
