Plumbing and heating companies can claim the £150 reward and use it towards the cost of a certificated course with a recognised training provider such as APHC, BPEC, City & Guilds, and all UKAS-approved ACS providers.

In 2021, APHC saw the most successful year for the scheme and handed out a record number of training rewards to companies across England and Wales.

The plumbing and heating industry requires contractors to acquire new skills and regularly refresh their knowledge, the training reward scheme operated each year by APHC (Training) is an incentive to safeguard the long term professional development of the industry and ensure training is undertaken.

Accessing COVID-secure training environments has been a challenge for businesses in recent years and, in a bid to tackle this, the APHC has worked closely with training provider BPEC in order to ensure that training and assessments can be delivered remotely.

The 2022 programme of courses are delivered using Microsoft Teams so delegates can use a PC or laptop device to log on and complete their training over three hours per day for up to four days. Once the initial training course is complete, delegates will then take an online assessment in order to obtain a course completion certificate.

Courses for this year include:

  • Legionella Cold Water Risk Assessment & Disinfection
  • Domestic Hot Water Storage Systems (Unvented)
  • Sanitary and Above Ground Drainage.

Graeme Dryden, Deputy CEO & Technical Services Manager at the Association of Plumbing & Heating Contractors (APHC), commented: “Keeping up to date and developing existing skills is important to help ensure you are working compliantly and safely. Our courses can not only help with this, but also help plumbers gain skills to access new markets such as legionella risk assessing.

“The £150 training reward is available to all plumbing and heating companies in England and Wales regardless of whether they are members of APHC. In order to receive the reward companies are required to send a copy of the training course invoice along with the successful course completion certificate to APHC who will then pay for the cost of the course, up to £150, straight into the employer’s business bank account."
