According to independent market research, awareness around the smart home has grown by 28% since 2015, suggesting that UK householders are increasingly interested in the lifestyle benefits that connected appliances offer.

The key underlying trends driving this interest are the desire to save energy (41%) and have greater security in the home (23%). A third of people said they would hire a professional to fit these products, meaning there are significant upselling opportunities for installers in the know.

Which is why Honeywell has grown its Lyric products to include the C1 Wi-Fi Security Camera. Installers can now offer a surveillance camera that works seamlessly with other smart technology in the Lyric family, such as the T6R thermostat or the Lyric Water Leak Detector.

The Lyric C1 also features sound detection that can recognise if a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm is activated and will send an alert, turning any standard alarm into a connected device. The same built-in speaker also facilitates two-way communication with people – or even pets.

The device captures a wide-angle, high-definition live stream of any room - with night vision offering round-the-clock protection. Any unusual activity is captured and notified via the Lyric app, enabling householders to take swift action in the event of an emergency. There are two alert zones which can be adjusted to ignore background motion and prevent false alerts, or focus on a high-risk area such as the back door.

Wired power means there are no batteries to change, and there is also encrypted local storage via an 8GB SD card (included), this ensures moments can be recorded, even if the home Wi-Fi is down. Free cloud storage (rolling every 24 hours) is also available for streaming and downloading clips with the Lyric app, all secured by 256-bit end-to-end encryption.

Andy Mansfield, marketing communications manager at Honeywell UK, said: “This expansion of the Lyric family makes it easy for installers to grow their business by offering a home security solution which can be upsold when fitting a Lyric T6 connected thermostat, or Lyric W1 Water Leak Detector.

“For the installer, being able to offer multiple products which can all be controlled by the same app improves customer satisfaction and reduces the chance of call backs. There is also less of a learning curve with new products, as each device employs a familiar Honeywell interface.

“The C1 Security Camera is also capable of working independently from the T6 thermostat, giving installers the freedom to fit the product wherever there is customer demand.”

To reward its loyal customers, Honeywell recently launched a new rewards scheme which allows installers to accrue points for each £50 spent on its products. These points can then be redeemed for a variety of exciting prizes, ranging from Costa Coffee vouchers to experience days. The C1 Security Camera is also eligible for 150 bonus points, giving installers the chance to collect more prizes per installation.
