In response to overwhelming demand for an increased range of sizes for its revolutionary Q&E shrink-fit jointing system, Uponor has launched ‘Q&E XL’ to cater for pipes up to 63mm in diameter and create one of the most reliable all-plastic plumbing systems on the market.

Due to the popularity of the system, which up until now was only available in fittings for 16mm to 25mm pipe, Uponor has expanded the portfolio to include a range of WRAS-approved Q&E rings, couplings, elbows, tee joints and adapters in 32mm, 40mm, 50mm and 63mm sizes.

Since its launch in 2013, Q&E has converted plumbers across the country to the ‘third way’ of jointing; a method which relies on the memory of Uponor’s PEX pipe and uses a specialist tool to rapidly expand the diameter of the pipe and Q&E ring to secure the fitting.

The subsequent joint becomes watertight within seconds, providing a quicker, safer and reliable joint compared to traditional copper soldering or plastic push-fit systems. Now the same jointing technology can be applied to all pipes and fittings up to 63mm.

Mark Dowdeswell, Application Manager – Plumbing at Uponor, comments: “Traditionally the plumbing industry has taken a conservative approach when it comes to alternative jointing technologies, beyond soldering or plastic push-fit. However, the customer response we have received since the launch of Q&E has been overwhelming – over 300 million fittings have been installed worldwide – and we’ve been inundated with enquiries asking for a bigger range of fittings.

“The new Q&E XL range will enable installers to now use the Q&E jointing method for ‘XL’ plumbing installations, instead of just on pipe up to 25mm in size. It will allow for an all-plastic installation, but with the added reliability of a water-tight joint – a cause for concern with some plastic push-fit systems.

“Similarly, given the fact that many projects now prohibit hot works on-site, the ability to offer a robust and reliable joint which can comply with both health and safety and hygiene standards is a real positive in the world of 21st century plumbing.”

The new additions to the Q&E range will also include isolation valves in 25mm, 32mm and 40mm sizes. As with the original Q&E range, Uponor has continued its successful partnership with Milwaukee tools to offer a new XL expander tool which is compatible with the M18 battery range of Milwaukee Power tools.

Suitable for heating (up to 80°C at a maximum pressure of 6 bar) and plumbing (up to 70°C at a maximum pressure of 6 bar) systems, Uponor’s Q&E shrink fit system can provide an ideal jointing solution for a range of applications.
