Vince Cable has urged UK businesses to invest in the renewable energy sector to boost the economy.

Secretary of state for business, innovation and skils, Vince Cable, has urged UK businesses to invest and develop opportunities within the renewable energy sector, arguing that it could help boost the economy.

"It's vital that British-based companies are supported to take advantage of new opportunities in the renewables sector," he said, "and the testing facilities here at Narec (National Renewable Energy Centre) are key to encouraging more investment in the UK."

Cable was speaking at the centre recently, which is in the process of building a £15 million marine test rig.

He added: "The UK has a strong presence in these markets. All of this means jobs and growth for economies throughout the country."
