ATAG Heating's managing director, Phil Bell, has raised over £4,000 for the British Heart Foundation after completing a 720-mile bike ride through France.

The bulk of donations came through fundraising-processing website JustGiving, where more than £3,000 has been raised so far.

The charity's aim is to prevent premature death from heart diseases through research, creating preventative strategies and ensuring quality care and support for those living with heart disease.

It took Bell 10 days to complete the solo ride from the Northern French Channel port of Caen to the Mediterranean town of Narbonne La Plage.

Bell said the ride was not easy: "Several days of strong winds and torrential rain made some of the stages quite tough. I now realise I was on the tail-end of a major weather depression sitting over France, which flooded parts of south-east France."

Donations can be still be made in support of Bell's bike ride and the British Heart Foundation via www.justgiving.com/philip-bell.
