From 1 July 2013, it will be a legal requirement for all building services products covered by European standards to have a CE mark when sold in the UK.

CE marking is currently voluntary in the UK, and products such as radiators, flues, chimneys, stoves, fans and similar products will all be affected by the new ruling.

Manufacturers are being urged to act now, to ensure their products are tested and CE marked before the 1 July deadline, to avoid their products being labelled as non-compliant.

Testing when required for CE marking must be carried out by an independent accredited laboratory with a Notified Body status.

Steve Cadd, manager of BSRIA Test, said: "Compliance is often a challenging business. BSRIA Test is working with the UK manufacturers and overseas importers helping them to understand the requirements and guiding them through the process for CE Marking. For that we have upgraded our test facilities and have maintained UKAS accreditation with a Notified Body status for particular H&V products, giving our customers confidence in their product performance and faster route to compliance."
