Shaun Scott from Oyne, Aberdeenshire has been named the UK Plumber of the Year 2016, after impressing an industry-judging panel in the final interview on 2 September.

Mr Scott, who has been a plumbing engineer for nine years, won the competition, now in it’s second year, by demonstrating his determination, skill-set and vision for the future.

Now in its second year, the competition, powered by bathroom giants JT, Bristan and Plumb Center, is designed to reward and recognise the remarkable talents within the UK’s plumbing industry.

Mr Scott took on four other plumbers in the final stage. Mark Wakeley from Devon, Richard Lane from Bolton, Richard Weir from North Shields and finally Sarah Osbourne from Cambridge, who walked away with a highly commended award.

Mr Scott takes home £10,000 worth of prizes, including JT and Bristan products, vouchers to spend at his nearest Plumb Center and products from Arctic, Big Wipes, CAT, CK Tools, Epson, Milwaukee, Monument, PayPal, Regin, Rothenberger and Toolbank.

“It’s an absolute honour to be named the UK Plumber of the Year in 2016, I really can’t believe it!” said

Mr Scott. “I really enjoyed the whole process, from completing the initial application form, gathering votes from my community and the final interview stage, which was nerve wracking, but a fantastic experience. I’d also like to say a big thank you to the sponsors and the prize partners for their generous support.”

John Schofield, sales and marketing director at JT, added: “We thought the level of entries in 2015 was incredibly high, but we’ve been blown away by the standards this year. Our final interview stage was incredible and Shaun is a worthy winner. He demonstrated his work, which showed some real skill and intuition, plus gave us an insight into where the future of plumbing is going. Massive congratulations to Shaun and the four final candidates and thanks to everyone who entered. We’ll be back next year.”
