A landlord has been fined for failing to have a valid Landlord Gas Safety Record in place for five tenants housed in his properties.
As part of a joint intervention between the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and Medway Council housing officers in March 2014, statements were taken from seven tenants.
Of the tenants questioned, only one was found to have a valid Landlord Gas Safety Record in place.
By law, landlords must have all gas appliances serviced regularly, normally once a year by a Gas Safe registered engineer. The Gas Safe registered engineer will provide a Gas Safety record upon completion of the check.
Nitin King, of Bredgar House, Primrose Lane, Bredgar, Sittingbourne, was fined a total of £32,000, and ordered to pay £4,560 in costs after pleading guilty to four charges of breaches to Regulation 36(3) of the Gas Safety Installation and Use Regulations 1998.
