The growth certainly is positive, however expectations need to be tempered by the fact that the government expects a minimum of 10 million further domestic gas boiler installations between 2025 and 2035 (as of 2022). With the new Labour government still bedding in, there will likely be a reassessment of the UK’s heat pump rollout – what’s gone right, what’s gone wrong, and what still needs to be done.

To get into the spirit of things, we’ve conducted own assessment of where the industry is and what needs to be done to take things forward in our Future of Heat special feature. Our new Deputy Editor Ali Emm has got stuck into the topic and, after speaking to some key industry players, has put together an insightful piece.

A more recent development that could light a fire under the heat pump sector are AI-driven ‘optimisers’. A big issue facing heat pump uptake in the UK is that in the majority of settings they cost approximately the same as a gas boiler to run, and these optimisers could cut heat pump running costs by as much as 60%. David Strahan reports for HVP on whether this new technology could potentially signal a boom time for heat pump installers.

In our packed September issue we also have our PHEX North Preview, which takes a look at what’s happening at the event on 9-10 October at the iconic Old Trafford Stadium, the home of Manchester United. I look forward to welcoming readers in the north of the country to the event.
