15% of tradespeople identified it as the most popular day for being called out, as many households start to get prepared for their Christmas festivities and welcome friends and family to their home.

Boilers are the most at risk of breaking down, with over half (53%) of heating engineers expecting to be called out to repair them on 17 December.

Almost half (41%) of tradespeople expect to be called out to fix leaking radiators.

With colder weather conditions hitting, 34% of tradespeople also expect that they will have to deal with frozen pipes too.

Matt Nourse, Commercial Director at Toolstation, said: “With a cold snap well underway, it’s worth checking everything is working before you batten down the hatches for Christmas. The combination of cold weather, damp and frost and preparing to host family and friends can put extra stress on parts of the home that are essential for keeping homes warm and dry.”
